PHOENIX CROSS-COUNTRY SKI CLUB

55 km west of Christina Lake, turn off Highway #3 at the Phoenix Ski Hill sign. Wonderful trails – just follow the posted map. Stop off to warm up at the dacha (cabin) by the viewpoint

PAULSON CROSS-COUNTRY SKI CLUB

57 km east of Christina Lake, adjacent to Nancy Greene Provincial Park. 45 km of trails have been developed by the BC Forest Service in cooperation with the Castlegar Nordic Ski Club.

RED MOUNTAIN SKI RESORT

Red Mountain Ski Resort is a forty-five minute drive from Christina Lake along a well-maintained highway corridor, no winding dirt roads to this ski area.
Two mountains make up the ski terrain which is accessed by three triple chairs, one double chair, and a t-bar. With over 1200 acres, and 2900 vertical feet, there is a lot to explore. The longest run is nearly five miles! It is an old-time ski area with an old time flavour. Visitors in the winter not only include the town population of Rossland and Trail, but many people come from around the world. All fallen in love with this little-known skier’s paradise.

Along with fantastic terrain and deep snow, the hill boasts short lift lines, long vertical descents, and a network of over 89 established runs (over 80% of which is rated expert). Skiers and boarders can expect to share most runs with few others and will find their legs burning at the end of the day.

Red Mountain ski area is famous for its tree and glade skiing. It was recently rated the number one resort in the world for the hardcore skier or snowboarder by Snow Country Magazine. Skiing Magazine listed Red Mountain in its top ten powder skiing resorts of North America.

KOOTENAY RIVER – BRILLIANT HOLE

Site of the 2000 World Team Trials whitewater rodeo, this hole offers expert paddlers one of the best rodeo features in western Canada. 45 minutes from Christina Lake.

KETTLE VALLEY

A gentle moving river which warms up in the summer to become a fine destination for a lazy afternoon paddle. This river boasts numerous private beaches, fine fishing for trout and whitefish, and scenic views of the surrounding meadows and mountains. Closer to Christina Lake are some mild rapids which you challenge on your own if you have some experience.

GRANBY RIVER

The Granby merges with the Kettle River at Grand Forks, just 15 minutes from Christina Lake. At the top of the Granby is Granby Park, a pristine wildlife reserve with ancient cedars and crystal clear water running from its old-growth forests. It is surrounded by the tallest peaks in the Boundary region.

An eight km paddle starting close to the park ends up in a 4 km class 4 canyon which will reward the best paddlers with its beauty and clarity of water. Further down river and closer to town are tranquil floats to be enjoyed by canoeists. There is even a white water play park just 5 minutes from town.

COLUMBIA RIVER- HERO HOLE

The one hour drive is well worth it for this hole, site of the ’97 Kootenay Kayak Festival. Experts only.

CHRISTINA LAKE

Christina Lake offers superb kayaking and canoeing! Enjoy the tranquil warm water and numerous sandy beach sites at the north end. (part of Gladstone Provincial Park) Paddle up to see the 8 foot diameter cedar trees or watch the spawning Kokanee in the Fall. Try your luck fishing for bass while exploring the native pictograph’s along the shore.

CHRISTINA CREEK

The outflow creek for Christina Lake, the creek meanders along and is a great place for wildlife viewing. The nesting waterfowl and fish are best appreciated from a small kayak.

HARRY LANG MEMORIAL TENNIS COURTS

Christina Lake has three courts just across the street from the ball diamond on Park Road. They are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tennis whites are definitely optional.

Named after the lake’s “father of tennis” who taught generations of residents to play, the courts have been rejuvenated with Sport Court, a plastic all weather interlocking tile surface that provides excellent footing, joint saving cushioning and an aesthetically perfect appearance.
