Christina Lake Fire and Rescue

Christina Lake Fire Rescue is a paid-on-call fire department operated by the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB). The department combines a core daytime staffing component with a paid-on-call response model and is staffed by a full-time Fire Chief, full-time Deputy Chief, part-time administrative support, two full-time Work Experience Firefighters, and a dedicated team of paid-on-call officers and firefighters who live/work within the community. 

Operating from a single fire station centrally located on Swanson Road, Christina Lake Fire Rescue provides fire suppression, medical first response, rescue services, marine response, and wildland/interface firefighting to residents and visitors withing the Christina Lake Fire Protection Area. 

The protection area roughly extends from the first Highway 3 snow gates east of town, up along West Lake Drive and East Lake Drive (up to the campground), south to the Canada–United States border, and west to the Gilpin Grasslands. For the remainder of Area C that falls outside of the fire protection area, including boat-access properties, the department may also respond at the request of the Province or partner agencies.

The department works closely with mutual aid partners Grand Forks Fire Rescue and Orient Fire Department in Washington State, as well as BC Emergency Health Services, the BC Wildfire Service, and provincial emergency management partners.

The fire department owns the following assets to facilitate service provision:

Engine 361 – 2024 structural fire engine with 800 Imperial gallons of water, foam capabilities, pump-and-roll functionally, and equiptment for medical response, ventilation, forcible entry, and rescue operations. 

Engine 362 – 2012 structural fire engine carrying 600 gallons of water and equipped for fire surpression, ventilation, and rescue support. 

Tender 361 – 2024 Type 2 tactical tender carrying 1,500 Imperial gallons of water, equipped for water shuttle operations, drafting, wildland-interface response, and pump-and-roll firefighting. 

Rescue 361 – 2007 rescue vehicle equipped for  medical response, and the wide spectrum of our specialized rescue services and sees the most calls. 

ATV 361 – Side-by-side all-terrain vechicle used for incidents in remote or difficult-to-access locations. 

Marine Engine 361 – Seasonal fire and rescue boat providing marine firefighting, water rescue, and emergency access capabilities on Christina Lake. 

Car 361 – Command vehicle utilized by the Duty Chief and configured seasonally to serve as a Type 6 wildland engine. 

Car 362 – Utility and secondary command vehicle used to transport personnel and equiptment. 

Wildland 361 – Specialized equiptment cache used to support wildfire suppression and structure protection operations.
